Aero-Go – Riding Along on a Cushion of Air

W.A. Crowley, research and development manager of Aero-Go, put the firm’s ‘toy’, the Terra Skipper, through its paces at Ocean Beach, skimming over sand and sea at a brisk 30 miles an hour. Crowley, who invented the first air-cushion vehicle in the United States, notes that it is powered by a 10-horsepower engine, which provides air for the bearing to lift it and drives the fan at the rear for forward thrust and steering. A wheel is used for moving on grades to keep the vehicle from sliding.
